BoxWave ActiveSkins

Saturday, November 20th, 2004

We are glad that everyone else is picking up fast and furious when it comes to making rubberized, semi-transparent “skin” casings for PDAs … the latest we found being BoxWave’s ActiveSkin.
They cater to virtually every PDA there is out there, including MP3 players too so there oughta be one for your machine. Probably the better-selling [...]

Finally in Malaysia: O2 XDA IIs & Xphone II

Sunday, November 14th, 2004

It sure took O2 Malaysia some this time around, but they have finally launched the XDA IIs PDAphone and Xphone II smartphone. Read their press release here (in PDF format.) We like their slate-grey/black outer shell color combo; silver’s getting a bit dull these days.
The newly-redesigned O2 websites are a tad slow, FYI.
The XDA IIs [...]

The “naked” Zire 72

Sunday, November 14th, 2004

Not really. But it sure looks like one.
According to BargainPDA palmOne has launched a Zire 72s Special Edition with a silver-colored painted exterior instead of the regular “Zapphire” blue. BargainPDA also has an interesting take on how this special edition came about …
All other specs remain the same with the stock-standard Zire 72.
There’s no date [...]

Of operating systems, and kings

Saturday, November 13th, 2004

Gartner released a report recently which states that, “Windows CE shipments, which reached 1.4 million in the third quarter, exceeded those of Palm OS for the first time.”
How many of such constant reports have we heard from dozens of research companies? There are even theories of conspiracies abound - particularly from mobile-OS-centric websites in the [...]

High-speed cellular, ahoy!

Thursday, November 11th, 2004

When you talk about mobility in data, the current fave word is WiFi, with WiMax pretty much in our sight. Supposedly-complementary cellular systems such as GPRS, EDGE and UMTS is supposed to figure in too, but just dropped back as it has not been able to provide the same level of cost versus bandwith/speed.
That might [...]

Play dress-up with your PDA

Tuesday, November 9th, 2004

A couple of years ago, PDA “skinning” was quite a big thing. You have these companies and even individuals who craft what are really self-adhesive vinyl laminates, based on the shape and design of your PDA.
You then just stick it on. Besides giving your PDA a totally fresh new look, you are actually protecting its [...]

Free Sidekick II

Thursday, November 4th, 2004

The T-Mobile Sidekick II might not figure much in technophiles’ books - if at all - but if all you need is a mobile phone with a lil of the PDA thang going on, plus a side of IM, email and mobile messaging thrown in, it’ll do nicely indeedy.
Especially when it’s going for free at [...]

Windows Mobile-powered Treos

Wednesday, November 3rd, 2004

We’re surprised this little report filed by CNET had not generated bigger reactions than what we’ve seen so far in Windows Mobile-focused websites, but apparently some analysts somewhere wrote in their report palmOne guys told them they are working to get Microsoft’s Windows Mobile operating system humming in its Treo line of smartphones.
The Palm OS-centric [...]
