Flash memory makers slash prices

That balance is tilting heavily toward further price drops as new entrants boost production. Infineon, Hynix and STMicroelectronics have recently started flash production, while Micron intends to enter the market in the third quarter.

Toshiba and Samsung are the world’s largest flash memory makers, used in all memory cards. They are reputedly dropping prices in response of the growing new entrants to the flash memory market. If the new guys are up to the “challenge”, we should see nice retail prices for our memory card needs immediately. A good benchmark is the Sandisk 512MB Secure Digital card, which is now only $96 at Comp-U-Plus.
