New Treo leaks out

treocentral has the scoop in addition to Palminfocenter and engadget on a new Treo due out end-autumn ‘04, as expected from palmOne, which traditionally refreshes its enterprise-driven devices (Tungsten, Treo) every Autumn. It also does the same for its consumer-driven devices (Zire) in Spring, as seen earlier this year by the release of the Zire 72 and 31.

The new Treo has been rumored with several possible names such the Treo 610 or 660, but treocentral has decided to stick to its codename, “Ace”. In addition to be slightly smaller in overall dimensions compared to the Treo 600, the Ace differs from its soon-predecessor by having a smaller but sharper 16-bit, 320*320 resolution transreflective screen (possibly TFT rather than CSTN), built-in Buetooth radio, a curved keyboard orientation, extra Send/End keys, a 1.3-megapixel camera with built-in video capability, a 312MHz processor, 32MB of RAM, and runs on the new Palm Garnet platform.

No prices are mentioned. treocentral interestingly states that the Treo Ace might see daylight much sooner - or later - than the expected Fall ‘04 release:

But depending on how development, and the production rampup goes, this could be as early as July or as late as Christmas 2004.

We’d like to think that it should be available on-target, in the months August-September ‘04. Whatever the timing, it will be before 2004 sees its end. A good Christmas gift idea!
