Asus A730 a strong iPAQ challenger?

The FCC has cleared the Asus A730 Bluetooth-only model for sale in USA, according to Brighthand. The stage is now set for Asus to break into the US PDA scene in a big way and possibly steal some thunder off HP’s new releases, slated on 27 July 2004.

Why do we say so? Because the Asus A730 is as close as it gets to a perfect PDA for power users - check out its specs:

  • 3.7″ 480×640-pixel VGA screen
  • Intel Bulverde 520MHz processor
  • 1.3-megapixel digital video/still camera
  • dual-slot memory expansion (CF Type II & SD/MMC)
  • Bluetooth connectivity
  • WiFi connectivity (in another version slated for later release, 2004)

And it’s all packed in a real nice casing the size of an iPAQ h4150, too - only slightly thicker. Definitely not a PDA future iPAQ users would want to ignore (unless one is a hardcore iPAQ devotee!)

The Asus A730 Bluetooth-only (without WiFi) is available on pre-order basis at PROPortable for $500 now. They expect to receive stocks by 1 August 2004.
