Danger Hiptop2 announced; T-Mobile readying sale of Sidekick II

If you are a total devotee of always-connected email and instant messaging, coupled with the incessant need to be available by phone 24/7 … this is what you should be looking for in a gadget.

The Danger Hiptop2 - known as the the Sidekick II at T-Mobile - was unveiled to a glitzy party of celebrities and musicians at the X-Games pre-opening festivities in Los Angeles. It now comes with a whole bunch of improvements over its predecessor, the original Hiptop/Sidekick. What’s outright obvious is it’s 25% slimmer, now has a VGA camera built-in, and that the swivelling TFT color screen now sits flush into the device when closed; tilts slightly toward the user when open. Check out the list of improvements here.

While the more techie of us would gawk at the Hiptop2/Sidekick II’s lack of the connectivity and networking technology such a Bluetooth, WiFi or old infrared, one could argue that its likely owners wouldn’t care less about such tech anyway - much less use it. It is meant for truly mobile (as in on-the-go) communications - not computing. Therefore, anything else that’s traditionally coveted in say, a PDA or handheld, does not apply to the Hiptop2/Sidekick II.

Buy it as your communicator; treat it like a mobile phone - and you’d find that it’s one heckuva communicator. Available at T-Mobile Fall ‘04; suggested (estimated) price $299.00. More pics and details available at InfoSync World article.
