And the worst-benchmarking $600 PDA goes to …

The HP iPAQ h6315.

The now-available-at-retail h6315 ($599.99 RRP) under-performs so badly on Spb Benchmark Index tests by Mobile Gadget News, it’s outright scary. But here’s the irony of it all: Less than 24 hours after the test were performed, the reviewer reported back that it just works fine and dandy; running the h6315 with loaded gaming, video, and graphics applications.

So what gives? Two possibilities: Either Spb’s benchmarking tool is not optimized for Texas InstrumentsOMAP1510 dual-core processor (found in the h6315) or HP did some serious tweaking under the hood.

We strongly believe the former.

The benchmarking tool actually tested the wrong core - the ARM925 that handles OS instructions and user interface (what you see on the screen), instead of the actual powerhouse C55x DSP core that handles the behind-the-scenes grunt work of multimedia processes and phone functions of the h6315. You can read up on the technical aspects the TI OMAP1510 dual-core processor here. So although the test results came back extremely poor, it did not reflect what the h6315 can actually do, and that is why the reviewer at Mobile Gadget News had no problems using the device “in the real world”.
