Smartphones coming on strong

All we did was take a Friday off, and suddenly we have sightings and rumors of not one, but 3 new Smartphones due out before the year’s out.

Over at Smartphone Thoughts, we read that a Qtek 8020 manufactured by HTC has been spotted in another website. As mentioned by in the article, it does look like a reworked Sony Ericsson T600 series phone … However, it does look like a possibility for the modified HTC Typhoon expected in the US come October 2004.

Later on the same day, Smartphone Thoughts reports on yet another Smartphone, this time a CDMA network-compatible HTC unit codenamed Vivida, expected late Q4/2004 on Verizon Wireless. Looks are always a personal preference, and we find the design of the Vivida rather … tacky. Too much gadgety flash and another sliding-body design, ala Transformers robots? Oh, well - to each his own.

Finally, we have the resurrected rumors of the new palmOne Treo 610 model codenamed Ace but now called the Treo 650, spotted by PalmInfocenter at a TreoCentral discussion thread. Expected inprovements over the current Treo 600 model include a built-in 1.3-megapixel digital camera with native video recording capability, Bluetooth, user removable battery, 320×320-resolution TFT transreflective screen, redesigned keyboard layout, among others still on rumors.

No definite dates for sale; expected Fall ‘04 - which means it could be as late as November, which would probably be accurate in tandem with palmOne’s traditional 2nd product release timeframe annually.
