Would you like your memory supersized, sir?
This is really interesting … Apparently folks that are starving for supersized storage in their digital cameras and PDAs are ripping Rio Carbon MP3 players apart ($249.95 at MobilePlanet; $212.00 at others) to get at its 5GB microdrive, manufactured by Seagate.
BargainPDA has an article about this, complete with a link on how to get at the Carbon’s microdrive.
While it might seem to be an awful waste to cannibalize such a wonderful MP3 player, but the temptation of having 5GB’s worth of storage in CompactFlash-slotted digital cameras and PDAs at a relatively dirt-cheap price is too much to bear
Be cautioned though, that there are currently no confirmation that PDAs would be able to access this microdrive - or any other microdrive, for that matter.
As comparison, the IBM 4GB microdrive is currently going for $474.06.
