Apple iPod Photo in store now

A bit of a surprise even for iPodders, Apple launched its iPod Photo early today. It was initially expected to debut early-2005.

Looking similar to the regular iPod, it comes with a 65k TFT LCD screen that displays photos, album art, and is slightly thicker and heavier - presumably to accomodate a bigger battery which will now last up to 15 hours (according to Apple), even as it powers a color display. Impressive.

It is now selling at the new iPod Store at $499.00 for the 40GB version; $599.00 for the 60GB.

Other news: iPod U2 Special Edition is also out …

Sporting a piano-black front shell with red click-wheel and autographed via laser-engraving at the back by the members of U2, it is actually a dressed-up regular 20GB iPod - all tech specs remain the same. $349.00 at the iPod Store.
