Brand-name notebook for less than $600
We are sure happy to note that a Compaq Presario, model 2223US at Micro Center is now going for a low, low $599.00 after a bunch of rebates (ugh; just give us the deal already without the rebates.) The rebates are outlined at the bottom of the product page.
Specs are decent:

No built-in wireless, but those PC cards or USB adapters are cheap enough to stick in the machine anyways. The earliest of the rebate expires 3/20/05, so best hurry.
