MDA IV launch - pushed back for improvement?

Brighthand reports that T-Mobile Germany has pushed back their launch of the MDA IV until Fall ‘05. This is not entirely surprising to us, given the fact that another mobile system, HSDPA is set to be the leader (well at least in countries with GSM) in high-speed mobile data access.

The MDA IV, manufactured by HTC to the codename Universal, is to be the world’s first Windows Moble powered PDA phone and would likely take the seat if T-Mo was to release as intended in Spring this year. Our guess is that they are pushing back the launch so as to allow HTC to tweak the Universal and perhaps come out with one that does HSDPA in addition to 3G - making the device an absolute king of connectivity. It already has GSM/EDGE capabilities, with WiFi and Bluetooth taking care of the local/personal networking front.

HTC might even take the extra time to improve on the Universal’s keyboard, which came under criticism from those who have their paws on the demos at the recent CeBIT show. Appararently it has a bit less tactile a typing experience than say, a Blackberry’s keyboard.

If HTC does all that, the Universal looks set to be as perfect a PDA phone one could ever want. All we have to do now ’til Fall is to create enough ruckus about it not having a built-in 4GB Microdrive …
