Powered By Women

Wednesday, November 2nd, 2005

Watching a news segment the other day - claimed women make up a good percentage (sorry can’t remember the number) of technology consumers. Note the emphasis is on consumers not buyers. As a technology buff and ahem all woman I’m not quite sure what to make of this. Yes I’m happy more women are [...]

Brand-name notebook for less than $600

Friday, March 11th, 2005

We are sure happy to note that a Compaq Presario, model 2223US at Micro Center is now going for a low, low $599.00 after a bunch of rebates (ugh; just give us the deal already without the rebates.) The rebates are outlined at the bottom of the product page.

Specs are decent:

Sun to make Solaris notebooks?

Friday, March 11th, 2005

Wow; a bit of unofficial news worth mentioning … Apparently during an interview with internetnews.com, a (no doubt, over-enthusiastic) division marketing manager with AMD’s mobile processor group let it fly that Sun Microsystems has … “expressed interest in producing its own brand of Solaris notebooks running on AMD processors.”
Of course, the internetnews.com team scrambled to [...]

Yonah teams up with Golan, sits on Napa

Tuesday, March 1st, 2005

What the … These are the very colorful codenames Intel is fond of giving its future products. Yonah is the next-generation dual-core processor for notebooks, Golan is the wireless chipset that will team with it, and Napa is the mainboard designed for these two buddies to sit on.
In short, these three make up the third-generation [...]

A decent notebook for a song

Saturday, January 22nd, 2005

Yeah; we know Wal-Mart has them sub-$600 notebooks … but somehow we are not too convinced of the reliability nor build of the thing. But we found this in our neighborhood’s upcoming Staples weekend deal circular:

HP® Pavilion Intel® Celeron® M Processor 350 build-to-order notebook $649.98 after instant savings & easy rebate. Valid Jan 23 - [...]

Walmart laptop on the cheap

Saturday, August 7th, 2004

Ok … Walmart.com (online-only deal) has a laptop, ECS 14.1″ Notebook Computer with Wireless Networking going for only $598.00!

We aren’t too surprised with the pricing … because most if its components are rather, uh … cheap. We couldn’t confirm this with what little information Walmart.com provides (it’s just stated as “imported” on the country of [...]

eCost blowout refurb sale

Saturday, August 7th, 2004

We had one too many experiences of HP products blowing up on us; suffice to say we ain’t too happy with them … except the iPAQs, of course
That said, we wonder if other US customers faced the same problems we did - as eCost has a huge stockpile of refurbished HP desktops, laptops, [...]

Toshiba Satellite deal

Wednesday, July 7th, 2004

Call us diehards - we run Toshiba notebooks exclusively here (and they never once failed us) - but we just can’t ignore this bargain:

Satellite A60-S1662 Notebook $979.99; only 9 left with 31 hours on the Bargain Countdown clock.
It might not be powered by the high-end Pentiums of Intel, but it does have a brilliant 15″ [...]
