Woo-hoo! Although the press release is ever so vague as to how the IPdrum doodad is gonna work (cable, software?) but it’s great news nevertheless. We have been so looking forward to Skyping from any ol’ mobile phone - aren’t you all?
PDA phone? Smartphone? PDA and phone?
While we at PDA-1 see the future in compact PDA phones. there are still some of us who would prefer separate gadgets, for separate times in our lives. In which case, a standalone PDA and phone would make better sense, both to the occassion and the girth of our pockets …

Notice that certain iPAQ series are not upgradeable (a physical limitation) such as the rz1000, rx3000, and hw6300 series. Which is really not a big loss since these units are like, on their way down …
What really bugs us is that there’s no mention of a Windows Mobile 5.0 upgrade for the yet-to-sell-in-US hw6500 series, which we last heard is to debut with the “old” Windows Mobile 2003 SE Phone Edition operating system. Update: The rumored hw6700 series is uh, rumored to run Windows Mobile 5.0.
Available late summer ‘05; HP asks that y’all check back with their website for updates on the final release date and other language packs for Windows Mobile 5.0.

If you’re rocking the podcasting thing, or just want some stonking good sound (not to mention blow-your-eardrums-out loud) offa MP3 player, you really shouldn’t see anything other than the iRiver 700/900 series, period.
Forget the sporty 800 series, unless you don’t mind getting them at full retail price from iRiver America’s e-Store.
Although it’s been rather quiet here in PDA-1, but we have been keeping tabs on the rumor mill. And here’s our take on the scene running up to 2006 - maybe y’all could call this yet another PDA-1 prediction:
