HP to upgrade models to Windows Mobile 5.0

HP is pleased to announce that we will be supporting the Microsoft® Windows Mobile™ Version 5.0 for Pocket PC upgrade for the HP iPAQ Pocket PC … HP will provide upgrades for the HP iPAQ hx4700, hx2000 series …

Notice that certain iPAQ series are not upgradeable (a physical limitation) such as the rz1000, rx3000, and hw6300 series. Which is really not a big loss since these units are like, on their way down …

What really bugs us is that there’s no mention of a Windows Mobile 5.0 upgrade for the yet-to-sell-in-US hw6500 series, which we last heard is to debut with the “old” Windows Mobile 2003 SE Phone Edition operating system. Update: The rumored hw6700 series is uh, rumored to run Windows Mobile 5.0.

Available late summer ‘05; HP asks that y’all check back with their website for updates on the final release date and other language packs for Windows Mobile 5.0.

Day of the PDA phones

Although it’s been rather quiet here in PDA-1, but we have been keeping tabs on the rumor mill. And here’s our take on the scene running up to 2006 - maybe y’all could call this yet another PDA-1 prediction:
